Boat Description:

The larger dive boat "Andiamo" is a 26 ft fiberglass boat with twin 140HP 4-stroke Suzuki outboard engine and can comfortably carry 10 divers, 2 dive guides and the driver. There are also two smaller dive boats, "Raven" and "Carola". "Raven" is a 24 ft fiberglass boat with a single 115HP 4-stroke outboard engine and can comfortably carry 6-8 divers. "Carola" is a 23 ft fiberglass boat with a single 75 HP outboard engine. We take 4 - 6 divers on this boat.

With a canopy, equipment boxes, tank racks and a ladder, these boats are perfectly designed for diving.

A DAN oxygen unit for emergency situations is on board all boats and our dive staff are trained in its use.

Sites Visited:

Albatross Passage: At an incoming tide this narrow passage is like fish soup. Eagle Rays, Mobula Rays, big Dogtooth Tunas, Barracudas, plenty of Grey Reef Sharks and loads of other fish can be seen here on almost every dive. The wall itself is overgrown with big fan corals, black corals and sponges and this is the home for small creatures like Nudibranchs, Leaf Scorpionfish and Pygmy Seahorse. Albatross is the best dive in the Kavieng area and a must for every visiting diver. Depth: 10 - 30 metres / 33 - 99ft

Matrix: This is probably the most beautiful drift dive in Kavieng. Fantastic hard corals in the shallows and huge fan corals from 20m (65ft) downwards make a beautiful scenery. And as you drift along you may see Mobula Rays, Turtles, Sea Snakes and of course some Sharks. Depth: 2 - 35 metres / 7 - 115ft

Echuca Patch: This is a large ridge rising from 45m (150ft) to within 12m (40ft) of the surface and is situated in the open ocean just outside Kavieng. A Korean fishing boat, the ‘Der Yang’, lies on its starboard side close to this ridge. This point is a magnet for Barracudas and Jacks.

Helmut's Reef: With only about 100m (300ft) across this little patch reef is situated in the middle of Steffen Strait. 7m (25ft) on the top and sloping down to about 45m (150ft), this reef is covered with beautiful hard corals and big fans. With an incoming tide schools of Fusiliers and Redtooth Triggerfish swarm around and make it difficult to focus on the Dogtooth Tunas, big Mackerels and Grey Reef Sharks. This is not an easy dive but you can expect the unexpected.

The Bottleshop: Around the pylons of a slipway in the Kavieng harbour is probably the best muck-dive in the area. Through the years an amazing selection of bottles, cans and tyres have created a perfect environment for critters. The weird and wonderful such as Ghost Pipefish, Demon Stinger, Allied Cowries, Nudibranchs and Shrimps, Octopus, Pipefish and many more are abundant here. This dive is a must for the serious macro photographer.

‘Kate’ Bombers: For the aircraft enthusiast we have two more plane wrecks in the Kavieng harbour. These Japanese torpedo bombers are resting in about 12m (40ft) on sand. On and around the planes you may find Nudibranchs, Cleaner Shrimps and Crocodile Fish.

How in god's name could "HE" have created such wonderful place and then kept it hidden away from all us mortals for so long? The crystal clear water, schools of big fish and warm tropical days all concealed from the world simply by a 12-hr flight back in time.
Diving Papua New Guinea - Milne Bay Diving Papua New Guinea - Milne Bay
It is one of the few places left in the world where a diver can see macro critters, pelagics, and big stuff, as well as fantastic soft and hard corals. The often misused and abused adjective “pristine” is actually appropriate here, due to low fishing pressure in the area in comparison to other areas of the Coral Triangle, no dynamite fishing, and thanks to a system implemented by dive resorts whereby local reef "owners" receiving a small fee for every diver that visits "their" reef. As a result elders make sure that the reefs are not fished.
