Poor Knights Divers is the Tutukaka coast's newest dive charter. Designed by divers, for divers, our 11m power catamaran has been purpose built to allow more than enough room for 10 divers and 3 crew.
Although our prime destination will be the Poor Knights Islands, the Sugar Loaf and The Pinnacles, we want to go where you want to go, whether that is for a coastal cray or scallop dive, investigating the Matapouri mangroves, exploring the wrecks of the Tui or Waikato or further afield to Mimiwhangata or the Hen & Chickens.
Because we take a maximum of 10 experienced divers we can be flexible about where and when to go; let us know what you have in mind and we will see what we can do.
11m brand new purpose built Power catamaran with 4.3m beam. Designed by divers for divers. 10 passengers plus crew. Complies with 2006 stringent safety standards - we carry 1 hours oxygen. Freshwater shower and toilet.
Poor Knights Islands marine reserve. At the Poor Knights you will see a spectacular diversity of plants and animals. Some of the lushest and densest kelp forests in New Zealand can be found at Cleanerfish Bay and Nursery Cove. You will find colourful invertebrates and benthic algae in the shade of the beds and feathery green sea rimu in the sand pockets between the boulders. You may also encounter sponges and gorgonians, tropical sea urchins, several species of starfish and brittle starfish.
The walls and archways offer a unique alternative to normal reef diving. On the upper areas of the walls, multi-coloured jewel anemones are common; lower down red, yellow and green encrusting sponge species. Mobile invertebrates include crabs, shrimps, Spanish lobsters, crayfish, snails, nudibranchs, crinoids and brittlestars.
