Above the water you will understand why Milford Sound has been called the 8th wonder of the natural world, majestic rainforest covered mountains tower above the ocean and huge water falls plummet into the ocean below, add the chance to see seals, penguins and occasionally dolphins and whales.
Runoff from rainfall of the mountains creates a freshwater layer on the surface of the saltwater, and stained with tannins from the forest it limits the amount of light reaching the depths, therefore making it possible for deepwater species like black coral to grow in diveable depths.
We operate regular trips with departures from Queenstown, Te Anau or Milford.
