Let Lucy Live

Let Lucy Live is a campaign to save NSW critically endangered Grey Nurse Sharks. Lucy is one of these harmless sharks and forms the face of the campaign. Let Lucy Live is an initiative of NPA~Marine and supported by conservation groups, celebrities and councils.

-Less than 500 Grey Nurse Sharks remain along Australia’s east coast . These may go extinct in our lifetimes

-Although listed as a threatened species for over 20 years, NSW has failed to protect these sharks and their numbers continue to decline

-1,500m sanctuary zones around their 16 key habitat areas in NSW will virtually protect these sharks from accidental hooking from fishing - the main cause of their decline

-Grey Nurse Shark key habitat sites are protected in Queensland, but not in NSW, the shark’s stronghold

They do not move about very quickly at all, which is a characteristic that makes them easy subjects to shoot. Often it is not the case of 'the one that got away', but the case of 'Oh no! I have run out of film again!'.
