Reef Check Australia is part of the United Nation's offical global coral reef monitoring network.
Coral reefs around the world are under enormous pressure from human activities and climate change. Although Australia’s reefs are among the best managed in the world, they are not immune to these threats.
Our Mission: To directly involve the Australian community in coral reef conservation, monitoring and management.
Since 2001 we have trained >100 community divers to collect high quality monitoring data at >40 dive sites on the Great Barrier Reef. Our database now includes 6 years of surveys. We are self funding and rely upon charitable donations and fundraising events to support our activities.
“Community participation is the key to promoting a sense of stewardship and a duty of care for the marine environment.” ~ Australia’s Ocean Policy

Reef Check works with Queensland's dive operators who provide inkind transport and berth space for our survey teams. Fully trained volunteers are able to take part in as many surveys as they wish at many of Queensland's best dive sites. Visit our website for training details, dive certification requirements and course dates.
