March of the crabs

Every year around May through to June 1000's upon 1000's of spider crabs make their way from the deeper waters of Port Phillip Bay to the shores in order to breed. You have to be in the right spot at the right time as the crabs are only at one location for a day or two. The crabs crawl on top of each other and make a living blanket that is at times 4-5 crabs deep. Large rays comb the area for any stragglers which makes for a truly amazing diving experience. Port Philip Bay, Victoria, Australia.
