Vuniboki Divers

Vunibokoi Divers.

Tyrone Valentine, one of the Taveuni’s most famous Dive Instructor and Dive Master, set up Vunibokoi Divers in Taveuni. This is a first class operation.

Tyrone was trained by Ric Cammick, the pioneer of Diving in Taveuni and was lead Instructor and Captain for Dive Taveuni until Ric retired and Dive Taveuni was closed.

Tyrone then bought his own boat “Suntan” and began Vunibokoi Divers.

Suntan caters for 8 divers with a crew of two. The day is laid back and relaxed. Departure is at 8.30 am, Tyrone will collect you from your hotel. Once on the boat you travel down the gorgeous coastline of the island to the World famous Somosomo Straits. Home of the Great White Wall and 15 to 20 other famous dive sites.

The soft corals are prolific and multi hued, it is after all the Soft Coral capital of the world. There are huge schools of tropical and pelagic fish, tuna, walu so many varieties and colours it is impossible to name them all.

His experienced dive masters will show you the magic of this abundant colourful underwater world.

There is a dive in the morning followed by a light lunch, coffee, tea, fresh lemon juice and fruit of the day provided on the boat, after a relaxed interval time you will enjoy the second wonderful dive.

Tyrone knows this area so intimately; he is a master at choosing the perfect dive for his clients depending on the tides and currents. You will know when diving with Tyrone his experience, skill and safety procedures are of the highest standards.

Boat Description:

8 meter aluminium /single hull/200hp yamaha outboard/seats 8 divers/2 crew/25knots. Travel time to dive sites 35/40 minutes.

Sites Visited:

The Rainbow reef named for the Somosomo straits [meaning clean water] is normally 20meter +vis with most of our dive sites portraying mostly soft coral, features that mostly stand out are places like the famous White Wall which is a deep dive that most advanced divers max out at 30meters that has again mostly white/blue soft coral. Rainbows end which is a photographers nightmare because one can't get enough of everything, from fussiliers, to vampire trigger fish to garden eels to nudibranchs to white tip reef sharks. Champion Rock has schooling banner fish and shoals of pelagic trigger fish and hundreds of scissors tail fussiliers. The yellow grotto as the name entails has a swimthrough covered with yellow soft corals ...to name a few...

Populations of large marine predators such as sharks are in dangerous decline. Recent scientific studies report declines of up to 99% for several shark species such as the oceanic whitetip shark in the Gulf of Mexico. Studies also indicate that the reduction in number of larger coastal species such as bull, hammerhead, and tiger sharks may be as high as 80% in the Atlantic Ocean.
