Underwater Adventures Tasmania

With Underwater Adventures Tasmania, you’ll enjoy the best diving that SE Tasmania has to offer - kelp forests, rocky reefs, sponge beds, marine reserves and wrecks, as well as seeing marine life that is only found locally.

You'll dive from Tasmania's most comfortable dive boat - a 10m Powercat with cabin and all facilities for your comfort on day trips, year-round.

We update our dive calendar weekly and also run dives to particular locations on demand. Min 2 divers required for most trips.

We offer a comprehensive range of SDI courses including 16 specialties. Introductory scuba experiences are available on some of our boat dives.

Gear hire is available for snorkellers and scuba divers including small sizes for children.

Boat departs from Battery Pt public jetty or by arrangement at Watermans Dock, close to the centre of Hobart and your accommodation.

Boat Description:

Our 10m cat, Kahala, has cabin, toilet, shower and gas stove, meaning you can stay warm and dry when travelling to dive sites, enjoy a warm hand-shower and unlimited hot drinks after the dive.

Sites Visited:

SE Tasmania is one of the most biodiverse regions in Australia with kelp forests, sponge gardens, rocky reefs, seagrass beds and silty bottoms, plus marine life that you won't see elsewhere.

In the Tinderbox Marine Reserve you can see all habitats that the region is known for, with highlights including sea horses, sea pens, sea whips, sponges and other invertebrates, and on muck dives you can see skeleton shrimp, brittle stars, hermit crabs and more.

The darker tannin waters of Ninepin Point Marine Reserve provide a unique dive experience and photo opportunity with deeper water species in shallow water and a golden glow to the light.

Unique marine life includes the Tasmanian Numbfish and the critically endangered Spotted Handfish that is only found at limited sites close to Hobart.

Wreck divers will enjoy the Betsey Island ships graveyard where it's possible to explore more than one wreck on the one dive, or a sunken bridge pontoon and the more challenging Lake Illawarra that are only a few minutes travel from the Hobart waterfront.

Our most visited popular dive sites are the Tinderbox Marine Reserve and kelp forests of Bruny Island. Most dive sites are 30-60 mins scenic boat trip from Hobart.

We occasionally visit other sites, such as the SS Nord, south Bruny Island and D'Entrecasteaux Channel, on extended day trips.

Narcosis is very real! Narcosis is very real!
This event took place a number of years ago while diving with a few mates on a charter in Tassie. We had planned to dive the famous kelp forests in EagleHawk Bay, Tasmania and a wall dive recommended by the skipper/guide.
