Laurieton

The heart of the Camden Haven area, Laurieton offers an extensive range of water related activities, a comprehensive and attractive shopping centre, trade park service area, library, tennis courts, squash courts, sporting facilities, swimming pool, community health centre, hotel and ex-serviceman's club with excellent facilities, a selection of fine restaurants, caravan parks and all the services and amenities expected of a thriving holiday town.

Laurieton was once a small fishing village, and is surrounded by lakes, linked by an attractive waterway - the Camden Haven River. The river, Stingray creek, Queens Lake and Watson Taylor's Lake, all boast excellent fishing, and hold a wealth of oysters, crabs and prawns.

Bream, whiting, flathead and blackfish are abundant in the quieter waters, while on the seafront and beyond there is good fishing for jewfish, taylor, snapper, rock cod and drummer.

Nestled underneath North Brother Mountain (at 487 metres high) Laurieton is sheltered from unfavourable winds, thereby helping to ensure a mild all-year round climate.

At the Cod Grounds, just off shore from Laurieton, Grey Nurse Sharks are often seen in unusually large numbers just above the seabed, in or near the deep sandy-bottomed gutters between the pinnacles.

Other marine life includes jewfish, tailor, yellowtail kingfish, teraglin, bonito, squid and crustaceans.
